About Us
Established in 2021 by Lenny and Beverley Gengiah, Khevna Foundation is a Durban-based organisation inspired by their personal adoption journey and a passion for caring for orphaned and vulnerable children. The name Khevna means “wish,” symbolising the foundation’s mission to bring hope to children in need of loving families and to families longing to adopt.
Having witnessed the challenges faced by communities with limited access to education and opportunities for personal development, our hearts were moved to create pathways that empower both young and old to reach their full potential. We recognise that food insecurity is a growing challenge for many households and that financial barriers prevent many learners from accessing and completing their education.
Through our initiatives, Khevna Foundation is committed to addressing these challenges by promoting adoption, expanding access to education and skills development, and fighting food insecurity. Our bursary programme and school-fee assistance aim to support learners from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them overcome financial barriers, remain in school and pursue a brighter future.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, regardless of their circumstances. We also recognise the importance of supporting vulnerable children and young people who need a safe, stable and loving family environment.
Through our initiatives and partnerships with businesses, organisations and community stakeholders, we strive to feed, equip and empower communities. Together, we aim to alleviate hunger, create educational opportunities, support vulnerable children and families, and build a future filled with hope, dignity and sustainable change
