Good morning, good people… it’s been a minute. The year has flown by too quickly and here we are once again at the “most wonderful time of the year”.
Christmas is a beautiful time for us, we remember and celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ birth and our own born again experience. Most of us are feeling warm and fuzzy as the sound of Christmas carols flood the airwaves.
“Sometimes people ask me why I pursued orphan and foster care. My reply is, “I didn’t, I pursued Jesus, and He lead me to kids who needed families.” Brian Mavis
In the past few months we have met and chatted with a number of couples considering fostering and adoption. These conversations and meetings have been both enlightening and overwhelming, fostering and adoption is not for the faint hearted. Our thoughts remain strong and resolute, while adoption may seem like a daunting step, opening your heart and home to fostering a child may be a step in the right direction.
What does fostering a child mean?
“Foster care is the temporary placement of a child who is in need of care and protection. The child is placed in the care of a suitable person who is not the parent or guardian of the child.”
Who qualifies to foster a child?
“To qualify as a foster parent, you must be: 18 years or older. Fit and proper in conduct and lifestyle. Willing and able to look after the child.”
Who qualifies for foster care?
“The child must be under 18 years of age and/or: have been abandoned or orphaned and be without any visible means of support. Be living on the streets or begging for a living.”
The dire need for more foster homes and parents are on the increase. More and more children are being removed from their family homes for various reasons, drug and physical abuse being high on this list. Our hope and prayer is that these children won’t become lost in the system. It would be ideal for them to be placed in homes that are stable and with nurturing foster parents.
May our hearts become open to these little ones that simply need our love, warmth, and care. May this become a conviction that resonates with you this New Year. My future blogs will delve deeper into fostering, its requirements and expectations.
A very Merry Christmas to you and yours. May the New Year bring you joy, peace and dreams fulfilled. Love always…
